"I am a DISA trained and certified Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) and a Commonwealth of Virginia-registered Private Investigator with 30 years of INFOSEC, information assurance, cyber security and computer forensics professional experience.
I began my professional career as a crypto technician when encryption keys were stored on IBM punch cards, 75 baud was the faster of the 2 available data transmission speeds and terminal equipment were most often Model 28 Teletype mechanical teletypewriters.
For the past several years, I have been engaged as the Information Assurance and Cyber Security Competency Lead for the Department of Homeland Security, Chief Medical Officer and Office of Health Affairs. I spent 5 years prior to that as the FBI's sole IT security Certification Unit rep in the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services Division headquartered in West Virginia.
I have consulted to private industry as a member of a big 4 public accounting firm, and to the federal Intelligence Community (NSA, CIA, DIA, etc.), Microsoft’s corporate headquarters reporting directly to Howard Schmidt (currently President Obama’s Cyber Security Coordinator) as an Information Assurance / PKI Program Manager, a University Chief Data Security Officer, incident response and cyber forensic lab director, a lead security architect with a New York based global financial institution and as a White House Situation Room NOC supervisor. I served for 10 years as adjunct faculty at NSA’s National Cryptologic School, and participated with federal and private sector information assurance and cyber-forensic task forces and working groups.
I served 8 years of active duty in the USAF as a crypto/secure comm technician stationed at Ramstein AB West Germany, Hill AFB Utah, RAF Upper Heyford U.K., and Fort G. G. Meade MD. I remained a reservist for an additional 12 years at Ft. Meade while continuing to work in the information assurance field.
I have received citations and awards from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Agency, Marine Corps and from the Director of Central Intelligence.
Today I live in Columbia, MD with my beautiful wife, a pair of tuxedo cats and a pair of miniature dachshunds - cats upstairs, hounds downstairs, firewall in the middle (actually, more like a controlled gateway between domains prone to catastrophic failure.) I’m into kayaking in warmer months and miniature modeling in the cooler months. This is a model I built that is occasionally displayed with the Meade Area RailRoad Society
